Computers and Student Lounge

Computers are available in the student lounge. You can check your email, keep in touch with your family and friends and do research. The student lounge also has a refrigerator, comfortable sofas and vending machines if you wish to purchase a snack.

Medical Insurance

Medical insurance is necessary for all students studying in Canada. ICLS will help you obtain medical insurance through a reputable company called Student Guard. They have excellent experience insuring students and students have been happy with the service Student Guard provides. The cost is $1.80 per day and it covers medical and dental accidents that occur while you are in Canada.

Certificate of Achievement

All students who attend ICLS for four weeks or more will be given a certificate which will show the language level that has been successfully completed. The level indicated on the certificate will be based on the Canadian Language Benchmarks. The Canadian Language Benchmarks were developed by the Government of Canada to measure the language level that ESL learners have achieved. There are 12 levels in the Canadian Language Benchmarks.

Homestay Accommodation

While you are studying in Canada, ICLS will find you a place to live with a Canadian family. You will have your meals provided in a safe, clean home. Living with a family will also give you more opportunities to practice your English and learn about customs and traditions in Canada.

If you will be studying in Canada for more than three months, ICLS can help you find other places to live such as a furnished apartment which you can share with one other person.

It is also possible to live in a residence where you may choose to have your meals provided or you can choose to have no meals.

After School and Weekend Activities

Participating in after- school and weekend activities is an additional way of improving your English and increasing your knowledge about life in Canada. By being involved in these activities, you will develop friendships with other ICLS students. ICLS will post a monthly list of activities and you may choose the activities that are most interesting to you.

Some examples of the activities we will be doing include:

• Hiking in Toronto's beautiful parklands
• Royal Ontario Museum (newly renovated)
• Movie night
• Centre Island - cycling, canoeing, walking, tennis, swimming or just relaxing (10 minutes from downtown Toronto)
• Ontario Art Gallery (newly renovated)
• Toronto Zoo - the 4 th largest zoo in the world
• Niagara Falls (1 ½ hours from Toronto )
• Visit to Quebec (French Canada) – the most historic part of Canada
• Pub night
• Trip to Algonquin Park – one of the largest wilderness parks in Canada-canoeing and camping
• CN Tower – 2nd tallest structure in the world

Purchasing a Textbook

ICLS will be using many language textbooks to help you improve your English and your self confidence when you visit a restaurant, or talk to a friend. If there is a textbook you would like to purchase, ICLS will obtain the book for you.

Banking Services in Toronto

TD Canada Trust is one of the five largest banks in Canada. There is a TD Bank just minutes from ICLS. If you wish, you may complete all of your banking needs at this bank. ICLS will be pleased to direct you to the bank employee who has offered to provide this service.
